Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance, Parts and Service
Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance, Parts, Avionics, Painting

Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance was originally founded as Thoroughbred Helicopters in 1988. In 2005, Thoroughbred was acquired by RJ Corman Railroad group, and was subsequently renamed RJ Corman Aircraft Maintenance.

Joe Otte, formerly with Rocky Mountain Helicopters and Astar Aircargo, was brought on in 2009 to oversee the transformation of the company. In the years since, Joe has added Robinson R22 and R44 to the list of service centers, as well as adding the maintenance of general aviation aircraft. The company’s growth has been steady, and a multitude of new services have been added, including avionicsaircraft painting, refurbishments and a wide array of parts sales.

Joe Otte and his business partner, Todd Case, acquired the company in 2016 and proudly reinstated the Thoroughbred name. Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance now has locations at six separate airports, and provides mobile maintenance as well. They maintain aircraft from small Cessnas to corporate jets, and helicopters from the helicycle to an AS 365N3.

In April of 2018 Todd and Joe, through Thoroughbred Aviation, completed the acquisition of Mustang Aviation, which was located in Lexington, KY at LEX Bluegrass Field. With this acquisition Thoroughbread obtained a Cessna/Cirrus/Diamond service center and doubled their Avionics department’s staff and capabilities. In addition, Thoroughbred has met all requirements to become an approved Airbus service center, Tecnam service center, and Rotax service center.

Thoroughbred Aviation continues to grow in order to meet our customers’ needs. We remain operationally driven to ensure our customers retain the highest level of aircraft availability.

Our experience with Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance was excellent. The quality of work and attention to detail was superb. We had our Bell 206 Long Ranger painted along with new chin bubbles installed and several issues corrected that were discovered once the old paint was stripped off. We could not be happier with the end result. They were on budget and on time. I highly recommend them to you. I don’t think you will be disappointed. We certainly were not.

Eric and his team performed a pre-buy inspection for us on a Commander 114 we were looking to buy. They did a thorough, professional job at a very reasonable rate. We couldn’t be more pleased with their work, and our overall experience with Thoroughbred Aviation. We will gladly engage their services again in the future.

Joseph Otte and his staff at Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance (previously RJ Corman) have been nothing short of outstanding. He and his staff are flexible, honest, safety-conscious, and upfront. There is never doubt that Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance puts the interests and safety of its operators first.

Joe has done the the maintenance on our 407 for several years. He has done an excellent job keeping us flying and with the cost of owning helicopters, he understands the importance of keeping costs down. Excellent shop that I highly recommend.

We are very high tempo flight operation and downtime is a huge concern for us. Thoroughbred Aviation has ALWAYS been willing to go above and beyond to keep us on track. They make every effort to get the job done and make sure it is done right. I really appreciate these guys.

Thoroughbred Aviation Maintenance (previously RJ Corman) inspected and maintained our company helicopter from the time of purchase to the time of sale. In those eight and one-half years they were always honest, timely and forthright in dealings. They went the ‘extra mile’ by driving three hours one way to replace a faulty on/off start switch AOG. Now they have added a paint shop, and before the sale of the helicopter, they did some great touch-up work. Very good shop and very nice folks.
